Hôpital Baptiste Biblique and Hôpital de l’Espérance

HBB Entrance SignSince its opening in 1985 ABWE’s Hôpital Baptiste Biblique (HBB) near Tsiko, Togo has been using the compassion of this much needed medical care to open doors for ministry, build trust and relationships, and present the gospel of Jesus Christ to Tsiko and surrounding communities.  Every year over 18000 visitors hear the message of Christ and countless more hear through parallel ministries and local churches.
Hôpital de l’Espérance (HE) in Mango, Togo is a prime ministry in the northern Muslim areas.  Already much success has been seen in youth conferences, church planting, Hope Radio, and many other ministries.

The technology in these hospitals enables the staff to be more effective and efficient freeing them to focus on what they do best — caring for spiritual and physical well-being of people.  It provides consistent tracking of patients visits, and makes their records easier to find — especially when many of the patients cannot spell their own name or falsify information to avoid paying for previous services. Inventory systems keep equipment and medicine in stock when resupply takes six months. Statistical tracking allows for financial and governmental reporting and demographic information enables chaplains and church planters to best target locations that are ready for churches. In short, just as with any western medical facility (or business), these hospitals cannot operate effectively without reliable technology, training, and clear upgrade plans.

However, technology also requires maintenance.  National workers with the needed qualifications are difficult to find and still fewer are willing to leave the comforts of cities. Jonathan will support both HBB and HE by providing:

  • Training technicians to assist with the diverse day-to-day IT needs.
  • Training hospital staff in the use of campus technology resources and disciple them in Godly ethics and standards of work and accountability so that they will become “workmen that need not to be ashamed”.
  • Advising hospital administrators on continuing needs and help them set long-term goals, policies, and procedures for sustainability, flexibility, and expandability in regard to IT resources to maximize ministry and minimize costs.
  • Helping the administrative staff understand how best to utilize their available IT resources and where to direct future opportunities.
  • Acting as an on-call resource in case of critical system failures and complex setups.
  • Coordinate procurement, installation, and maintenance of technology projects.

Radio Espérance

Hope Radio will reach into four countries and into the privacy of people’s homes and lives in a way that few mediums can. It will enable the hospital to educate people and improve their physical well-being while at the same time opening their hearts to the life-changing message of the gospel.

ABWE and Bible Basics International (BBI) are partnering together in this unique opening for the advancement of the cause of Christ. Hope Radio will draw from ABWE’s ministry experience in West Africa and BBI’s expertise in radio. The impact of this radio ministry will be significant in bringing light and hope to people who are lost in darkness.

Along with this new radio station come complex computer systems and networks that need upkeep.  While other technicians will keep the main portion of the radio and audio equipment running, directors have asked for a computer and network administrator to handle the computer related setup and maintenance from day-to-day.

Mobile Education Technology Labs

Jonathan will set up and maintain several portable computer labs for use as ministry tools for education, discipleship, and evangelism. You can learn more exciting things about these labs on the dedicated project page here.
